Eco Church

At Holy Trinity we believe God has commissioned us to care for the wonderful world that he has given us.  One of the ways we are doing this is to join the Eco-church movement, supported by A ROCHA UK. This provides a framework and resources to support us as we take practical steps to 'go green' in all areas of church life. We have currently achieved our Bronze Award. Here is some information and ideas to help you play your part.

Things to do and try this month

Here are our top tips for the month to help you embrace your green side:

November

Help the wildlife in your garden as the winter approaches by providing bird boxes for them to roost in and bug boxes and log piles for the insects. Log piles do not need to be big, but need a damp, shady spot where they will not be disturbed.
Compost bins are a great way to convert your garden waste into compost, but don't put food in them or you will attract rats.
A small pond is wonderful for wildlife, but if you can't have one of those, try a birdbath or water feature. You will be surprised by how many birds and insects will appreciate it - especially if you keep it clean and frost free during the winter.

Finally, why not have a look at the T25 project which is A Rocha UK’s project to help a range of declining species, taxonomic groups, and threatened habitats.
Along with their Partners in action, they are working to help a wide range of 25 target places and species that are struggling with the effects of climate change, habitat loss and pollution.
Each Partner is using iRecord to monitor numbers of species, and track improvements in populations in response to the work done to care for the species on site. Using iRecord can inform further land management plans created in the years to come.
If you go to https://arocha.org.uk/what-we-do/target-25 you will find some helpful resources that will explain how you can get involved.

Calculate your Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint

DID YOU KNOW?

The average carbon footprint varies by country and lifestyle, but it's around 4 tons per person. In the UK, the average carbon footprint is 12.7 tons per person. Do you know what yours is? To avoid a 2% rise in global temperature, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop by under 2 tons by 2050.
